Laughing Waters

Moon Author's Review

Laughing Waters is probably the most stunning beach in Jamaica for the combination of gurgling falls and fine, golden sand. The beach was made famous in the first James Bond film, Dr. No, when Ursula Andress emerges from the sea singing and echants 007, played by young Sean Connery. Located just east of Dunn's River Falls and Pearly Beach, the property is managed by the St. Ann Development Corporation and its parent the Urban Development Corporation, a government body that owns and operates some of the island's most lucrative toursim attractions, as well as others that see few visitors. A protocol residence reserved for state use faces the beach.

The beach can be rented to groups at rates varying by size (USD 1,000/1,500/2,000/2,500 for up to 75/100/150/250 guests, USD 500 deposit).

Locals park along the highway on the broad shoulder just west of a JPS substation opposite a dirt road leading inland and step over the barbed wire fence to head down an old paved driveway no longer in use, and then follow a trail that leads off the left side of the mowed field before reaching the bridge across the Roaring River. The trail leads down to the beach about 500 meters west of where the cascades meet the sea. Guards patrol the property with large dogs, but seldom trouble undeterred tresspassers.
